FITNESS CLASS 7th-8th GRADES
Course Description:
The purpose of this course is for students acquire knowledge of physical fitness concepts and begin to develop an optimal level of fitness. Students will be introduced to many different movements that will enhance their muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and improve students overall physical health.

1) The student will learn and practice safe correct lifting and spotting techniques.
2) The student will gain information that will help them achieve and maintain a high level of fitness for a lifetime.
3) The student will become as strong and physically fit as appropriate for their individual maturity level.
Instructional Philosophy:
Students will be expected to participate each class and follow classroom procedures. They will follow the rules of the gym and weight room to ensure the safety of all students. Students will also take part in the BFS readiness program. The BFS program will cover weight room safety, charting of workouts and performance testing. Students will be expected to improve on their performance tests in the BFS program. Other variables such as student effort and participation will have a strong impact on the student’s grade.
Student Assessment:
Students will be given a letter grade. Daily grades are based on Participation and Dress. Students will be evaluated on these daily grades, participation, weight room safety, fitness testing, written tests, and projects. Students will keep a chart of their workouts that will be checked each week. Grades can be checked daily on the online grade book.
Class Expectations:
1. Dress in athletic top, shorts, and shoes (**school dress code applies)
2. Participate during class activities
3. Encourage others to push themselves.
4. Show effort, sportsmanship, self-direction and a positive attitude
5. Follow all school rules
Recommended Supplies:
***Clothing should not be the same as student wore to school
1. Gym Shoes and Socks
2. Athletic T-Shirt (no tank tops)
3. Athletic Shorts/Pants (no spandex)
Suggestions: Warm Clothes for Cold Days and Deodorant

30% - COMpletion of Weekly Workouts
20%- IMPROVEMENT IN BFS TESTS
=100%

B= 80-89%
C=70-79%
D=60-69%
