Physical Education 6th, 7th and 8th Grade
The purpose of this course is to encourage students to be physically active for a lifetime. Physical Education presents a unique opportunity for students to enhance their quality of life through physical activity. This course is designed to increase student’s knowledge of sport skills, fitness, and health.

INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Students are required to participate daily to help them practice and maintain sufficient lifelong skills and a high level of fitness. They will be expected to explain the rules of games, strategies in game play, as well as health education topics. Lifestyle choices and benefits of physical activity are concepts students will show knowledge of. Lastly, they will demonstrate good sportsmanship, cooperation, fair play, and respect for self and others.
STUDENT ASSESSMENT:
Students will be assessed on the following four-point scale:
Standard Scale
4. Exceptional
3. Satisfactory
2. Progressing
1. Needs Improvement
Students will be given a 4, 3, 2, or 1 on the standard scale for each of the four Physical Education standards:
STANDARD 1- (PHYSICAL) MOTOR SKILLS AND MOVEMENT PATTERNS.
Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
STANDARD 2- CONTENT KNOWLEDGE-
Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to learning and performance of physical activities
STANDARD 3- FITNESS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY-
Participates regularly in class physical activity. Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness
STANDARD 4- PERSONAL/SOCIAL BEHAVIORS AND VALUES-
Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
Class Expectations:
1) Dress in athletic top, shorts, and shoes (**school dress code applies)
2) Participate during class activities
3) Show effort, sportsmanship, self-direction and a positive attitude
4) Follow all school rules

***Clothing should not be the same as student wore to school
1) Gym Shoes and Socks
2) Athletic T-Shirt
3) Athletic Shorts/Pants (no spandex)
